Vaughan Zakian is the Founder and Chief Development Officer at Nuvon. For more than 20 years, he has been at the forefront of the IT industry, developing cutting edge designs for network systems and telephony.
Zakian’s vision of the future led him to focus upon the issues of security, quality of service, remote access, and IP technologies. Along that journey, he discovered the problems that workflow inefficiencies created in the safe and timely clinical treatment of patients in the health care system. He founded Nuvon to address two critical needs in health care: to deliver a more innovative, robust, and flexible approach to biomedical device connectivity and interoperability, and to achieve real time access to biomedical data.
Under his direction, Nuvon developed its unique patent-pending VEGA architecture that delivers a device intermediary platform for interconnecting real-time device data with any third party hardware, software, network, or system. With Nuvon’s system, clinicians can focus on patient care, knowing that the integrated data on the patient’s condition is available to them in real-time, in any location, truly realizing the promise of Point of Care … Anywhere™.
Prior to the founding of Nuvon, Zakian was an early adopter of VoIP technologies, designing secure systems for multi-branch companies to use ATMs for toll savings. He designed systems that facilitated a four-digit dial plan between branches saving hundreds of thousands of dollars annually.
Zakian also designed and implemented tools for Nippon Express, USA Inc., a leading provider of global logistics solutions and supply chain services, to facilitate the communication of AS400s with Kanji based Windows 95 systems.
In 1986, Zakian founded Cadamerica, a computer-aided design software company that used 18-button function pads for automated design functions, specializing in the manufacturing of molds for various industrial applications. Cadamerica was later acquired by ICAT, a CAD hardware and software manufacturing company.
Zakian is a member of the IHE Patient Care Design (PCD) committee, where he works to promote biomedical device connectivity and interoperability and innovative healthcare IT solutions.
Zakian earned his Doctorate of Philosophy, Masters, and Bachelor of Science degrees from Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
